A New Arabian foal ("Nahgua" Nugui El Khamsin x Badaliah) standing for the first time ... This foal, nick-named "Henry" and like all of this mare's foals, was born unable to walk on his front feet. With a little time, however, he was able to figure things out. Henry became a powerful riding horse with an unusually long stride. "I always regretted not sending him to the track," says Mr. Hevener. "His dam was a direct daughter of one of the last Arabian racehorses born in the royal stables of Egypt. He moved just like her and he would have been incredible. Nahgua loved this son of his. A lot of people didn't want to believe it, but Nahgua helped raise this colt himself: They shared the same paddock from the time Henry was 6 months old."

All in a day's work. The young Hevener Lillie ("Nahgua" aka Nugui El Khamsin x MX Contessa) finally lets Mr. Hevener put on her halter. As a 3 year old, Lillie was trained by Keystone Driving Force and she made it to Delaware Park Racetrack. Today, she is a talented racehorse. But, back in the days of this snapshot, she was the naughtiest girl in town!

Mr. Hevener's home (Pennywood) there are many friends stopping by and lots to talk about -- especially when it comes to dogs and horses. Here, the artist takes a break from kennel chores as his neighbor stops by with a young horse in training ....
