Special Announcement
Effective immediately, all stories for Mr. Hevener's column, "On With The Show!" will be submitted to publishers a month in advance of being released to his general readership. Mr. Hevener's latest story (Late Bloomers) has been sent to publishers and editors carrying his column and will be available to readers on our mailing lists after all magazines, newspapers, newsletters and web sites carrying his column have had the chance to publish it first. Readers of Mr. Hevener's novel, "The Blue Ribbon," will enjoy this newest adventure of the character Esmeralda von Havenburg in the illustrated story, and they will have a chance to see an illustration of Esmeralda for the first time as she hob-nobs with friends like famous designer Coco Chanel, Picasso, Mae West and a host of other animal lovers known for their independent spirit and sense of fun. - The Studio.
Back To Work!
Traveling to Scottsdale was great and, as usual, the show was a wonderful chance to catch up on friendships and make new ones. Before leaving, I made up my mind to go to every party I was invited to (and crash the gates of every one I wasn't). On the way back to Michigan, when I walked through the airport scanner (Don't you hate that?) I think all they could see were business cards in every pocket!
I won't be dropping any names here. Privacy is something I respect and value. But, I will say, we took on a new feeding program for the Selket horses, made important decisions regarding trainers, and saw our horses in a whole new light. Maybe it's the designer in me, but I see changes developing in the "fashion direction" of the breed and I believe Selket Arabians is going to stick with the tried and true. One might consider our horses to be tried and true "tweed jackets" ... although we certainly have a few silk tuxedos and evening gowns in the collection ... - RH.
Up, Up & Away!
As I pack my bags for Scottsdale, I'd like to thank the many photographers, breeders and trainers who sent photos and information to improve our site. Please take a look at our Stallion page and scroll down to see the stallions Jim personally selected for Khamal-blooded mares. We have been very pleased with the results of such breedings and some of their offspring have become my favorites here. The really interesting thing now is to blend and cross these various bloodlines while intensifying Khamal with each generation. Jim and Khamal must be smiling as they ride across the heavens (Yes, we saw two shooting stars here recently) -- I know all of us are smiling here, too. - RH.
